Ursula – Cake & Coffee


Last week we found out all about Indies in Bristol’, a campaign led by Ursula Hutchinson, the creative director of Konichiwa, that promotes the power of shopping independent in our city.  We asked Ursula the all important questions to find out a little bit more about .

Q 1. What’s your passion in life?

I love to bring people together and initiate things, whether that be through events, communities or networks! I am also passionate about music and A/V and in my spare time I create visuals for live performance with electronic music artists.

Q 2. What do you do?

I am the creative director of my agency ‘Konichiwa’, aimed at startups and independent businesses.

Q 3. Why is it important?

It is important because startups, social enterprise and local businesses deserve to get the professional marketing and creative help they need, at a time when they need it the most.

Q 4. What will you be presenting at this week’s Cake and Coffee event?

I will be presenting our social campaign ‘Indies in Bristol’, a campaign which makes better connections between independents, customers and our city.

Q 5. Top tip for business/industry

 My top tip for businesses starting out would be challenge yourself and don’t be afraid to making mistakes or experiment with new ideas (as long as it’s not too inconsistent!) as that’s what makes you learn quicker.
I saw a definition of a ‘startup’ once I really liked and it was something like “being a startup is a phase of experimentation, seeing what works and what doesn’t before becoming a fully fledged business”  I think many startups think they have to be certain to succeed, but I think if you have a good idea, the determination and self-belief, then the first few years are just a journey of discovering what works and what doesn’t. As long as you respond to that (as well getting some good perspective from your team and those around you) – you will get there!
